DIY Rug Cleaning

How To Spot Clean

Spot cleaning is something that you quickly do on your own, and we may not consider it essential, but it’s very critical in maintaining the carpet is in good shape without a machine. Whether it’s a stain left by your pup, dropped food, or drink, simple cleaning hacks can bring back your rug to its original state.

If it’s a fresh stain, don’t forget to blot it with a towel cloth or a muslin cloth. You could also use a bunch of tissue papers as they are convenient and highly absorbent. The next step is to give it a soapy wash. For this purpose, you could use liquid dish cleaner or use club soda to remove the stain if it’s fresh. However, consider using a carpet cleaner for better results by following the guidelines mentioned on the product.

Pro-Tip: blotting works better than scrubbing in wet/sticky fresh stains.

A lint brush works magically in removing pet hair from your rug. Brush hard on the area where your pet lays most often or where you can make out more build-up. So brush more frequently to keep your mat tidy.

How to Remove Coffee Stains

Blot The Stain

The first thing you should do is blot the stain to absorb extra moisture if you have just spilled coffee on your rug. Blot nicely using tissue paper, towel-cloth, or a muslin cloth. Alternatively, you can put heaps of newspaper on the wet stain and let it absorb the moisture. Now pour some cold water on the stain and blot again.

Use A Cleaning Solution

Take one cup of hydrogen peroxide and mix it with a half teaspoon of the liquid dish soap. Mix it well, now dab a towel or a sponge into the concentration and apply it to the stain. Let the solution sit for 10-15 mins. Now, blot again using a paper towel to absorb the dampness.

Use A Wet Vacuum

If the stain doesn’t go away in the second step, you need to switch to a wet vacuum. Apply the cleaning solution to the color and let it rest for 5-10 mins. Turn on the wet setting of the vacuum cleaner to get rid of the stain. Repeat these steps if the stain is still there.
